Transforming Challenges into Opportunities: The Inspiring Journey of Nasreen Ghulam Muhammad

GGHS Abdul Wahab Soomro, Balochistan

It felt surreal—like life had handed me the chance to rewrite the story of this school.

Nestled in the heart of Balochistan, GGHS Abdul Wahab Soomro was once a stark symbol of educational neglect. Cracked walls, dusty floors, and an absence of electricity, water, and proper sanitation defined its state. Basic learning resources like desks and bookshelves were nonexistent, and the overcrowded classrooms offered little more than hope to the few students who dared to attend. Yet, in the face of these challenges, one young girl, Nasreen Ghulam Muhammad, dreamed of a brighter future.

“I remember sitting on the bare floor, clutching a worn notebook, while sunlight poured through the cracks in the walls,” Nasreen recalls. “So few girls attended school; many families didn’t see the value in sending their daughters to a place that offered so little.”

Born into a family with scarce resources, Nasreen’s journey was one of extraordinary resilience. Against societal norms and financial hardships, she completed her secondary education at GGHS Abdul Wahab Soomro. Determined to achieve more, she left her village for Quetta, where she earned degrees in Biology and Education despite numerous personal and financial challenges.

Her journey came full circle when Nasreen was appointed as a biology teacher at her alma mater. The story of GGHS Abdul Wahab Soomro took a transformative turn with the intervention of KnK Japan, which constructed a six-classroom, double-storey disaster-resilient building, turning the dilapidated school into a beacon of hope for the community.

“Seeing these new classrooms brought a rush of emotions. This is the school I always dreamed of—not for myself, but for the girls who will now sit where I once did,” she says. Today, Nasreen stands as a testament to perseverance and the transformative power of education.
